Symposium I

History
Chest X-ray

-Shoulder pain, but...
-chest X-ray actually shows consolidated mass on lateral right pleura
-Worsen over 3~6 weeks

-previously well
-never smoked
-married to retired marine engineer
-retired dockyard office worker (chances of asbestos exposure)

Chest X-ray to chest radiograph
  • low oxygen saturation : (put on O2, explanation + morphine) CT thorax? biopsy?
  • pleural fluid ( milky/chyle, cloudy, bloody, 'straw'/clear)
Diagnosis : mesothelioma (sarcomatoid)

One depressing fact about mesothelioma is that there are no known treatment or screening program can be offered although research/discussion expect coming incidence.
